John MacInnes is a writer, director and producer working at the intersection of storytelling and emerging technology.

He began as a screenwriter. His screenplay Outside The Wire won the Academy Nicholl Fellowship, and he went on to write for the video game Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

Today, he combines traditional filmmaking with new tools to create stories that move between reality, memory and imagination. His recent work includes AI-generated sequences for a BBC documentary on David Bowie, reconstructing people and places from 1976 West Berlin. His work has received an AIS Lumiere Award and three Epic Games MegaGrants, and he teaches AI filmmaking at the USC School of Cinematic Arts.
