In 2014 I was hired by Evergreen Studios to create original stories within the Honor Harrington universe. Over decades author David Weber had created an extensive catalogue with a loyal following.

Evergreen founder and tech billionaire Mike Devlin wanted to utilize technology to do more than just produce tv and films. Working with Deck Nine Games they developed an interactive scripting system and rebuilt a prototyper software into an incredibly powerful story creation tool: Storyteller.

With veteran producer Scott Kroopf (Bill and Ted, Jumanji, The Last Samurai), I teamed up with narrative designer Meg Jayanth (80 Days, Thirsty Suitors) on a branching narrative script for the game based on new character I created called Roola Mensa. Roola’s Run was going to be the first of many adventures with Anika Noni Rose (Ralph Breaks The Internet, Dream Girls) playing Roola.

Sadly Evergreen lost its financial backing, but the technology and the team behind it went on to make the highly acclaimed game Life is Strange.

Tell Tale Games and The Last Of Us were a big influence. I was thrilled to be able to explore the mechanics of branching storytelling. The experience of adapting a large story-verse for a variety of media has served me well when it came to producing transmedia content made with Unreal.
