ALTERED CARBON
In early 2018 Netflix released Altered Carbon, their biggest and most expensive series to date. The global marketing campaign launching the series was equally ambitious with immersive activations taking place simultaneously in seven countries around the world. We created an interactive screen that would track the face and body of anyone standing in front of it. Using only hand gestures users could select one of eight avatars ('skins') and then see themselves as the avatar. Real actors were scanned to create the realtime digital humans in the Unreal game engine. The experience had to run seamlessly on locally sourced hardware with an Nvidia 1080 GPU. Using a technology pipeline we had developed for the Department of Defense were were able to create a never-been-done before experience, an achievement recognized by the Advanced Imagining Society who honored the work with the first ever Lumiere Award for Best Augmented reality Experience.
